How this preview works

We read the grant lists that private foundations file on IRS Form 990-PF and that grantmaking public charities, such as community foundations and United Ways, file on Form 990 Schedule I. Each grant is placed in a county by the recipient's ZIP code and tagged with a cause area when its purpose or the recipient's name, as filed, contains matching keywords. Funders are ranked by how many different organizations they funded in your area. Donor-advised fund sponsors, workplace-giving and matching-gift programs are left out, because they pass along donors' choices instead of taking requests.

The preview counts grants; it doesn't check whether a funder fits your budget, takes unsolicited applications or is still giving in your area. A past grant is not a promise of funding.
