Free Funder Finder: the top 5 funders for your county
Pick your state and county (or enter a ZIP code) and a cause area. You'll see the five grantmakers whose IRS filings list the most grants to organizations there, with the number of grants, the typical (median) grant size and the most recent tax year, each cited to IRS Form 990-PF or Form 990 Schedule I. No sign-up, no email.
How this preview works
We read the grant lists that private foundations file on IRS Form 990-PF and that grantmaking public charities, such as community foundations and United Ways, file on Form 990 Schedule I. Each grant is placed in a county by the recipient's ZIP code and tagged with a cause area when its purpose or the recipient's name, as filed, contains matching keywords. Funders are ranked by how many different organizations they funded in your area. Donor-advised fund sponsors, workplace-giving and matching-gift programs are left out, because they pass along donors' choices instead of taking requests.
The preview counts grants; it doesn't check whether a funder fits your budget, takes unsolicited applications or is still giving in your area. A past grant is not a promise of funding.
